Substantive Editing

Service Description

In most editing contracts, substantive editing is not concerned with punctuation, grammar or spelling (proofreading). Proofreading is included with my substantive editing contract. Requires consultation with author Assesses and shapes material to improve its organization and content Helps authors see the big picture, but do not write or rewrite anything for the authors Helps authors fill in blanks and eliminate repetitions. Ultimately, the substantive editor’s job is to help the author deliver clear, coherent writing to the intended audience.
